In this project, my team and I aimed to predict the future prices of popular car models, specifically the Honda Civic, using numerical interpolation methods. Inspired by the growing importance of financial forecasting, we used historical pricing data (2019-2024) to build accurate predictive models with cubic splines—piecewise-polynomial functions known for their smooth and continuous curves.
Our model, created using MATLAB, successfully predicted the Honda Civic's 2024 price with remarkable precision, having a relative error of just 0.16%. Encouraged by this accuracy, we confidently projected the price for 2025. Through this project, we demonstrated the practicality and effectiveness of mathematical modeling in economic forecasting and laid a foundation for its broader application across various markets.
